Missing the point.
I admit my defeat in understanding women!
What don’t you understand? That we don’t like being treated like idiotic stereotypes who are too confused or stupid to buy a computer on a regular website? Or that not every woman wants products that have some sort of flowery/pastel/”woman-friendly” design on them?
Well I do understand the argument in a way, but point remains that it is scientifically proven that men and women do perceive analytical arguments in a pretty different manner (related recent research: here). Their preferences are different and the choices they make are also based on some very different algorithms. So if a company like Dell (not a fan of or working for them anyway) makes a special website targeting just their ever increasing market - I never thought it could be a point for a controversy.
They are certainly not demeaning or insulting women in anyway - perhaps giving a privilage which men should be moaning about (if they can do that).
First of all, we’re not talking about analytical arguments, or male neurological processes vs female neurological processes. If we were talking about the gender differences in UI, I could see your point. But we’re not. This is solely a marketing ploy that is based in the assumption that women are either disinterested in and/or intimidated by shopping for a computer. The tech tips section tells women “Ways to Use A Netbook”. I know how to use a computer, thank you very much. And also? I don’t need it to “track my gym workouts” or “improve my mood by looking at photos or listening to music” (tip #3). Essentially, Dell is operating under the same archaic assumptions that car dealerships used to embrace: that “technical” consumer products are too complicated for me, and that I need help figuring out what I want and how to use it. That is demeaning and insulting, and certainly not a “privilage” (sic).
